Paul Thompson

Paul Thompson worked in health, social care and education before coming to LSBU. He is professionally qualified in social work, psychoanalytic psychotherapy and is a fellow of the Higher Education Academy. Paul was a member of the Mental Health Act Commission from 2000 – 8, and has been a member of the Care Standards (First-tier) Tribunal since 2002. Previous professional posts have included Director of Social Work, West London Mission; Social Work Subject Area Leader, University of East London; Head of Social Work/Approved Social Work Coordinator, Friern Hospital/London Borough of Camden; Area Leader, Centrepoint Night Shelter.

Paul co-authored ‘Social Work, Psychiatry and the Law’ (Heinemann 1986/1999) as well as numerous journal articles and anthologised poetry. In addition, Paul is interested in exploring the spiritual dimensions to public activity. In his spare time, Paul swims year round in the ponds on Hampstead Heath and works at producing clear notes on various woodwind world flutes (not at the same time).
