Professor of Not for Profit Management and Leadership and Head of Centre for Government and Charity Management

The university has a strong focus and commitment to the public and not-for-profit sectors and has a long history of teaching and research in this area. Alex is interested in the intersection of the public, private and third sectors. He has written on the voluntary sector compact and stakeholder approaches to organisational strategy. He is Chair of Emmaus South Lambeth and on the board of Welcare, a charity for children and families.

Alex has carried out research in Health, Local Government and Emergency Services in the UK and Denmark. He also has active interests in Italy France, China and Norway (where he is visiting professor). He has worked at The University of Paris (Sorbonne), Copenhagen Business School and Brunel University.

Alex qualified as a Probation Officer and was previously a senior manager in Social Work. He has an MBA from the London Business School and Masters degrees in Public Administration from the USA and in Medical Sociology from the UK. He is a Fellow of the RSA.
